Me han escuchado y leído comentando sobre la importancia que creo tiene el sentido del humor en nuestras vidas. Sé que muchos de ustedes piensan de la misma manera. Lo cierto es que la vida en general es muy seria, se compone de asuntos serios que debemos atender, y tenemos problemas serios que resolver. También nos encontramos con gente seria que nos contagia su seriedad. De hecho, a veces somos nosotros los demasiado serios.
Para que haya balance en nuestras vidas y le restemos peso a ciertas situaciones, es bueno añadir algo de humor. Eso hace que nos relajemos y hasta nos ayuda a resolver problemas y encarar situaciones difíciles o incómodas. Ayuda también a los que están a nuestro alrededor. En ocasiones, al encontrarme con personas muy serias, me da la tentación de hacerles cosquillas. Ay, Dios, pero no siempre puedo. Es decir, sí puedo, pero la mayoría de las veces no sería apropiado. Además, estoy segura que en muchos casos, no me lo permitirían, y en otros, lo cierto es que no me atrevo. Estoy segura que si lo hiciera siempre que se me ocurre, algunas respuestas no serían muy graciosas.
No hay nada malo con la seriedad, por supuesto, siempre que seamos equilibrados. Confieso que a veces se me va la mano con la seriedad. Pero siempre que es posible, y sobre todo, prudente, trato de integrar el elemento humor a la situación. Lo hago haciendo cosquillas, pero sin tocar. Puede ser con un comentario o pregunta, con una mirada o hasta un gesto. Hubo un tiempo en que lo hacía con un espejo. Sí, buscaba un espejo para que el “seriote” o la “seriota” se mirara la cara tan seria o enojada. Nunca me falló, estallaban en risa y, aunque el problema no fuera resuelto, se sentía un alivio tremendo.
Pero, algunas veces podemos confundir el sentido del humor con la falta de seriedad. Y eso sí que no me hace ninguna gracia.
Como tantos otros temas que discutimos, esto es algo que tenemos que manejar con frecuencia. Una de las mejores cosas que podemos hacer es reírnos de nosotros mismos. Ah, pero no quiero a nadie riéndose de mí. Yo trato de no reírme de nadie. Cuidado con reírnos de los demás. Ya eso sería burla y no entra en lo que es sentido del humor. Mejor nos reímos con los demás. Opino que es posible bromear, mostrar buen sentido del humor en casi todos los temas. Pero, hay asuntos que realmente no deben estar sujetos a broma, ni siquiera para tratar de alegrar a alguien o hacerle su carga más liviana. Créanme, puede tener el efecto contrario.
Por más que pensemos, analicemos y discutamos las bondades del buen sentido del humor, no podemos olvidar una realidad. Esto no convence a todo el mundo. Así que, sería bueno reconocer que no podemos bromear con personas que no lo aceptan. El momento también es importante. ¿Cómo vamos a tratar de hacer reír a alguien que está sentado en la silla del dentista con mil instrumentos dentro de la boca? Otra cosa: si sabemos que la persona tiene un punto débil, -todos lo tenemos- ese no es el tema de nuestro chistecito, busquemos otro. ¡Por favor! Nos puede dar la tentación de hacerle cosquillas, de hacerlo mirarse al espejo, se nos puede ocurrir el mejor comentario gracioso, pero si la persona no lo recibe bien, o el momento no es adecuado, fracasamos. Las claves son discreción y balance.
Hace algún tiempo asistí a un adiestramiento laboral en el que uno de los temas principales tenía que ver con asuntos de salud. El orador era una persona muy capacitada, muy conocedora del tema. Tenía además, mucha facilidad de expresión y experiencia. No sé si por estar nervioso o por darle un toque más liviano a un tema no muy fácil de manejar, se dedicó a presentar la mayor parte de la información en tono de broma. La actividad también conllevaba participación de los asistentes. Cuando hacíamos preguntas o comentarios, él contestaba con bromas, algunas de ellas bastante pesadas. Al final, como de costumbre, se nos solicitó hacer una evaluación escrita del adiestramiento y el adiestrador. Traté de hacer una evaluación justa. Lo cierto es que la información fue buena y el adiestrador tenía conocimiento y dominio del tema. Pero, al mantener la broma presente en todo momento, le restó seriedad a todo el evento y a sí mismo. Además, la buena información que presentó quedó diluida en tanta broma. De manera que, en el espacio de “Comentarios” añadí una nota que verán más adelante. Puesto que me había identificado en la evaluación, el adiestrador me localizó, nos reunimos y tuvimos un muy buen intercambio sobre el asunto. Así que esta historia tuvo un final feliz.
La nota que le escribí decía:
